OF INTEREST TO MUSICIANS/MUSIC LOVERS/TECHUNG FANS:
Artists, musicians, and bloggers who support Tibetan nationalism face high risks. Music can be pulled from distribution, and musicians can face years in prison. Tibetan singers Lolo, Tenzin, and Gebey have all been sent to prison for making music that celebrates Tibetan culture. Music made by exile musicians such as Techung is frequently censored once it reaches Tibet.

17: Revenge, The Haunting Presence, Antebellum, Invocation War and Actualli play black metal in a $20 show from 8pm at the Elbo Room.

18: Sweet Blossom String Band, Totally Dead, Wake Of the Dead and Reckoning play for free from 10am in an all age show at Civic Center Park in Berkeley.

18: Megan Slankard, Quinn Deveaux and The Blue Beat Review play a 9pm show listed as 6+ at The GAMH tonight.

18 & 19: The Treasure Island Festival is on! It is an all age 2-day event - but costs a minimum of $85. On Saturday, you can catch Outkast, Zedd, Janelle Monae, St. Lucia, Jungle, M0, Classixx, Ryan Hemsworth, Ana Tijoux, Xxyyxx, Ratking, Tobacco and Painted Palms, while Sunday's line up gives you Massive Attack, Alt-J, TV On The Radio, The New Pornographers, Washed Out, Banks, White Denim, Polica, The Growlers, Chet Faker, Asgeir, Bleached and Cathedrals.

19: Aussie band The Bennies play with Skank Bank, Sweet Hayah, Ridgway Space Station and Saane & Delight at 924 Gilman Street in an all age show costing $8 from 5pm.

20: Stoneburner, Caroline Blind and DJ Crackwhore play goth/industrial for $7 from 9pm at The Elbo Room.

22: Happy Diving have a record release tonight, and will be playing along with Fishbreath and Walter TV at 1-2-3-4 Go! in Oakland in an all age show from 7pm.

22: Turn Me On Dead Man, Twin Trilogy and Older Sun play from 9pm in an $8 show at The El Rio.
